Lake Water Level Data

Turtle Lake’s ups and downs as of Spring 2020

Turtle Lake’s ups and downs.

Since about 2007, the Association’s Lake Level Committee has been measuring and studying the ups and downs of the lake.  The lake usually behaves quite well, with ups and downs within 0.45 feet from the average.  The exception was the severe national drought in the summer of 2012 when the lake level dropped 1.3 feet from average—causing great anguish.  For a detailed report from 2008 to 2018—plus two slide shows, click HERE.

Several important questions are answered in the report and in the two slide shows:

  1. Why didn’t the lake drain completely when the creek breached its bank about 1995 and dried the concrete dam at Turtle Lake Road?  Same question: Why didn’t the culverts at the road drop the lake by five feet since the culverts are about five feet below the lake?
  2. If we had fixed the breach, how much would we have needed to raise the concrete dam at the road?
  3. What caused Dan Schroeder in 1965 to ask the Wisconsin Public Service Commission how high he could raise the concrete dam at Turtle Lake Road?  What was the answer?
  4. How can I connect my smart phone or computer to the Turtle Lake Weather station?

As you may have noticed, the lake was especially high in late summer of 2019 and in the spring of 2020.  We continue to measure and study the variations.
